The Pilar and Nicanor F. Zaratan Foundation, Inc.

Latest News for the Foundation
The Officers and Board of Directors of the Pilar and Nicanor F. Zaratan are most appreciative and grateful in partnering with friends and family members for their unwavering support to help fund the continuing scholarship for poor and needy students at ZEI.
Since the inception of this program in 2011 up to this date, the Foundation has helped about 120-150 students on a yearly basis to complete their secondary education through its donors.
We plan to continue soliciting from generous donors and philanthropic organizations as we unceasingly fulfill our mission in lifting the lives of impoverished brethren studying at ZEI.
We welcome our current scholars and look forward to the incoming scholars.
As a private institution, ZEI still prides itself with truly living up to its reputation as “a school for the poor”. The Philippine government assistance program was based on the total student population of about 320+ students with a lowered assistance amount for the school in the ESC (Education Service Contracting).
The 501(c)(3) U.S. public charity Pilar and Nicanor F. Zaratan Foundation, Inc. remained the main source of the needed funding assistance to impoverished families. The monies from generous benefactors supplemented the operational monies needed to defray teachers’ salaries and operating expenses for student development.
We thank our sponsors and benefactors for their unwavering support in our endeavor to provide quality education for total human and society development.
We are still accepting donations for more scholarship funds to support more students!
The Pilar and Nicanor F. Zaratan Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit organization with a legacy for providing education to the poor (c/o Zaratan Educational Institute, Inc.); and charity towards marginalized families in select townships in Pangasinan, Philippines.

THANK YOU for supporting our continued call for scholarship donations. We hope to have a long standing relationship with you.

We continue to search for additional donors for the growing number of students who need assistance in their tuition fees. We also accept in-kind donations in our drive to provide better lives for our students and the community. One avenue in this commitment is our outreach program in partnership with ZEI. As a way of paying-it-forward to the community, donated goods that are suitable for elementary school pupils are given to other schools in Pangasinan. The latest beneficiary is Doña Catalina Elementary School, also in Aguilar, Pangasinan. Another avenue of donations is our program to provide impoverished families with meal allowances for the Easter Sunday following the Holy Week. This year, 20 families will enjoy something special for their Easter meal thanks to the generosity of the Agustin family, a donor to the foundation.
We remain hopeful that we can reach Alumni donations through this website. Please refer to the CONTACT US tab above for your interest in helping us.

About Donors and Program Contributions
Student recipients of the private PNFZ Foundation, Inc. scholarships have expressed their gratitude with thank you notes to their respective sponsors. Each note, written either in Filipino or English is mailed directly to their sponsors.
These thank you notes have become a tradition over the last three years as a practice to inculcate the exemplary nurturing of the “sense of gratitude” that ought to be borne by every person who is given a “gift” for free, partial, or full matriculation fees. These notes likewise force the student to improve on their writing skills and learn how to communicate through letter writing.
Scholarship guidelines were conveyed and expressed to parents of the selected and worthy students for Grades 7 to 12 during the PTA meetings. Parents were made aware that they too have a responsibility to ensure that their children achieve the standard “grade” to maintain their scholarship.
Parents take the initiative and/or learn how to show their gratitude by being active in school activities. Activities as menial as tree planting to beautify the school grounds; and help clean the facilities in preparation for the school year. This was particularly noted during the “Brigada Eskwela”. It is estimated that 120+ families will express this kind of support this coming school year. Parents are reminded of their responsibility to return this receipt of scholarship with a gesture of thanks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does ZEI offer scholarship?
We offer underprivileged but deserving students the chance to finish their secondary education. Our student-scholars come from impoverished households that are barely able to provide ample food and shelter to the children. These families do not have adequate resources to send their kids to high school due to low income or unemployment.

How are student-scholars chosen?
Our scholars undergo both academic and social background review. We look for scholars that have done well in their elementary year, and we base their scholarship coverage (either full or partial) on the socio-economic status of their families.

How much do PNFZFI donors usually give?
The foundation welcomes any amount of donation. They range from ₱20 to ₱20,000 or $20 and up. It is estimated that ₱5,000 (or around $100) is enough to send one student to school for a year.
